Dawson Civil is proud to announce it has been awarded the Newsome Creek infrastructure improvements project along the Trans-Canada Highway in the community of Sorrento, British Columbia. Construction is scheduled to begin in early March, with work anticipated to continue through November 2026.
Strengthening Highway Infrastructure and Water Management
The primary focus of this project is the trenchless installation of a new 2400-millimetre steel culvert beneath BC Highway 1. The upgraded culvert will increase water flow capacity at Newsome Creek and help address ongoing drainage and erosion challenges in the area.
To support construction, the project will include temporary and permanent site access, highway widening, utility relocations, and temporary water diversion to safely complete in-stream work.

Supporting Environmental Protection and Long-Term Resilience
Channel reconstruction and environmental restoration form an important component of the project scope. Works will include creek channel improvements, slope stabilization, bank reinforcement, and fish habitat in-stream restoration measures designed to support the long-term health of Newsome Creek and its surrounding ecosystem.
These upgrades are intended to improve system resilience during high-water events while reducing erosion risks and enhancing long-term stability for the Trans-Canada Highway, nearby properties, and the surrounding natural environment.
Working to Minimize Impacts During Newsome Creek Construction
As one of British Columbia’s primary transportation corridors, the Trans-Canada Highway plays an essential role in connecting communities across the province. Dawson Civil will work to minimize disruptions to both BC Highway 1 users and local residents throughout construction and will provide updates as the project progresses on our Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn channels.
