Work is officially underway on the Highway 97 Cottonwood Hill Phase 3 stabilization project, with Dawson Civil crews mobilizing to site in late February.
In the first weeks of the project, the focus has been on establishing the worksite and bringing the project team together. Site trailers and equipment were delivered so crews could begin operating directly from the location, while early meetings with partners—including the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, consultants, and subtrades—helped align everyone on the work ahead. The sessions were productive, helping build strong working relationships across the project team as the project moves into construction.

Preparing the Highway 97 Cottonwood Hill Phase 3 Site
With the site offices and equipment now in place, crews have begun preparing the area. Over the past two weeks, Dawson Civil has been on completing laydown areas and setting up site offices to support operations.
Crews have also started preparing the site itself by installing culverts and improving the site entrance so equipment and materials can safely access the work area.
About the Highway 97 Cottonwood Hill Stabilization Project
Located north of Quesnel, the Cottonwood Hill area has experienced ongoing slide activity in recent years. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit launched a multi-phase stabilization program following a 2020 slide that caused ground movement in the area.
Phase 3 will carry the stabilization effort forward by strengthening the hillside through a combination of earthworks and structural reinforcement.
We will continue sharing updates as the Highway 97 Cottonwood Hill Phase 3 project progresses on our Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn channels.
